Grating and its applications

“Grating” is the universal designation for a mesh manufactured from two elements joined together: a plate that fulfills the bearing function and, a bar with a circular section, as a brace element. The main purpose of this constructive conformation is to provide a surface of behavior similar to an equivalent rigid plate. In the case of steel grating, this principle is only guaranteed when its elements are solidly joined at each and every one of its crossing points by a forging welding, obtained by an industrial process called electroforging, based on the controlled combination of temperature and pressure; resulting in the perfect union (without free spaces or slag) of its components, without requiring input material with electrode as occurs with conventional electric welding.

This constructive form and its associated mechanical behavior, together with the special characteristic of light

conformation, makes this type of metal grid is the most appropriate solution for any type of industrial application, such as: platforms, ramps, racks, bridges, roads, road drains, etc.

The homogeneous geometry of its elements, its self-supporting characteristic and its possibility of combination with other elements, are appreciated attributes that have made steel grating an attractive option for architects, taking advantage of their applications both in the internal spaces of buildings and in buildings. external spaces. In this way, this metal grid, previously confined to a purely industrial context, now has the novel opportunity to openly exhibit itself in buildings and public spaces in our cities. As an example of these new urban applications of steel grating, the application on screens of facades, railings, stairs, base of walkways, among others, stands out.

One of the main innovations applied to this product is vertical use as a security fence system, this innovative application, comprising a combined system of vertical poles and panels that are joined together by a special bolting system or by conventional electric welding. The modular arrangement of this system substantially facilitates assembly with the direct consequence of minimizing time and costs on site. On the details of this application we will extend in future deliveries.

Another important advantage of steel grating products is the hot dip galvanized finish. This finish is achieved by applying an industrial process based on the total immersion of the piece in Zinc at high temperatures, which results in a surface alloy with unparalleled resistance to corrosive agents.

The electroforged grating is manufactured in Venezuela by Steel Wire Mesh Grill, C.A. in its plant located in the Santa Cruz de Aragua Industrial Zone, with the support of H. Welle, S.A. and its extensive network of branches nationwide to ensure both the distribution of its products and the technical advice of projects.

As it is a nationally manufactured product, there is guaranteed continuity of supply, while technical-commercial advice has the direct support of the manufacturer, both advantages of great value for application in any type of project.

The applications of steel grating in architectural projects in Venezuela only begin, so it is a creative challenge to incorporate innovative applications to buildings and public spaces. At H. Welle, S.A., we provide the most professional support and advice according to our premise of becoming the most valuable ally of your projects.
